Windows Live Writer

This is a quick entry to test the above program that I have just installed on the Netbook computer, I need to set up a new blog for general blogging and see if I keep it updated. Just testing if the entry can be edited from Live Writer. Yes it can, this is a useful program and it may be just the thing that I need to get into blogging for real. I only set up the sketch blogs as an exercise to show students how it was done (though I would like to actually do some more sketching and posting on a regular basis)

Here's one done from memory and imagination. I am quite pleased with this as I didn't do any pencil drawing to start with, I just jumped straight in with the pen.

One of the great things about an ink sketch is that you can scan them as black and white images, which makes for a really small file especially when saved in GIF format. This image is only 8K in size.

I decided to give my new Grip-Matic pencil a workout to see how good the automatic lead advance is. I am very impressed, there is quite a lot of scribbling in here but I rarely had to adjust the length of the lead, usually only when I broke the lead by pressing too hard.

I have just downloaded and installed "Hello" from Picasa. This software makes it easy to add photos to the blog, and they are stored for free at Blogger.Com

You don't have to mess about making thumbnails and linking them to the full size image, it is all done automatically. You can also set what size you want the previews and full image to be.

And best of all it's free Visit the Hello Website

A New Start

I have been using the computer for creating graphics and animations for years and I had really got out of the habit of sketching.

I did try a few times to put together a sketching kit but I tended to try and carry too much and spent more time thinking about what I was going to use than actually drawing anything. Also the large bag that I was using made me feel really conspicuous and as I am rather nervous about sketching in public anyway, I found this another reason not to do anything.

Anyway I have decided to try again, this time with a really small sketching kit that I can carry all the time and the photo shows what I came up with

I have tried the kit out in the garden and you can see the first sketch in the photo, I will post a larger image of it later.

I am hoping that this kit will get me back into sketching, and that this blog will provide the inspiration to stick at it. Only time will tell
